Established in 1999, Chingford Islamic Society has been serving the local muslim community daily since it’s inception.
In addition to Chingford, the masjid also has worshippers attending from as far north as Waltham Abbey since no other facilities exist for them locally.
The masjid has seen a steady increase in worshippers over the years as new muslim families move into Chingford or children of existing families move into their own homes locally.
Attempts have been made to expand the masjid by purchasing the adjacent property with a view to extending into it. However, although the purchase has been completed, we have been unable to obtain the necessary planning permission from the Council. Attempts are still continuing though.
As a result of a shortage of space to fully accommodate the increasing numbers, the masjid now holds 3 sessions on Friday for Jumma prayers.
We make dua to Allah that he gives us a larger, more suitable building, and that he accepts the efforts and donations of all those that have strived in his cause. Ameen
Chingford Islamic Society is also a member of WFCOM (Waltham Forest Council of Mosques). This is a local organisation that consists of 9 mosques in Waltham Forest that liaises and works with other organisations on a collective basis for the benefit of Muslims in Waltham Forest. Examples of some of the work organised and co-ordinated by WFCOM include:
- Negotiating with London Borough of Waltham Forest to ease parking restrictions around the mosques on Fridays, Eid, and other special times of the year
- Organising relief work and fundraisers for war-torn parts of the world
- Worked with other faith organisations to promote dialogue and interfaith projects
